Viagra (Sildenafil) is an oral prescription drug used to treat males diagnosed with erectile dysfunction (ED). The active ingredient, sildenafil, works by relaxing muscle blood vessels thereby increasing blood flow to the penis. In combination with sexual stimulation, Viagra allows for a male to achieve and keep an erection. Viagra (Sildenafil) is a shorter-acting ED drug that can be effective for up to 4 hours at a time.

Always follow your doctor's instructions while taking Viagra (Sildenafil).

  • Taken by mouth, usually as needed
  • At least 30 minutes but no more than 4 hours before sexual activity
  • With or without food but heavy and fatty foods may change the effects of the drug
  • Do not take more than 1 pill a day
  • Never change the dosage you take without first consulting your physician

If you have any questions about taking sildenafil or dosage, talk to your pharmacist or doctor.

Before taking Viagra (Sildenafil), talk to your doctor or pharmacist about:

  • Any allergies you have (this medication may contain inactive ingredients which can cause allergic reactions)

  • Before surgery: all other medications (prescription, non-prescription, and herbal) you are currently taking
  • If you are using marijuana
  • If you are pregnant or breast feeding
  • This medication may make you dizzy (do not drive or operate machinery if this occurs)

Tell your pharmacist or doctor if your condition does not improve.

Side effects include but are not limited to:

  • Dizziness, headache, flushing or upset stomach
  • Vision changes such as sensitivity to light or blurriness

Stop taking Viagra and get immediate medical help if you experience any of these rarer symptoms:

  • Sudden decrease in vision in one or both eyes
